Co-opted governor appointments
The School Governance (Constitution) Regulations 2012 contain an explicit requirement that all appointed governors “have the skills required to contribute to effective governance and the success of the school”.
The NGA model skills audit is based on the DfE's Competency Framework for Governance and helps governing boards to identify skills gaps and the skills prospective governors can bring to the board.
The NGA has produced skills audits for single/maintained schools and MAT trust boards. A matrix to collate and analyse the results is also available on the site.
