More than 95% of children get their first choice of primary school
Today (Monday 17 April) is National Offer Day, when children up and down the country will find out which primary school they will attend from the 2023/24 academic year.
Further information
In Leicester, nearly 4,000 five year-olds have been offered a place at a primary school, with 95.3% of children gaining a place at their first choice school.
Most (98.3%) of the 3,940 children who applied this year have been allocated a place at one of their three preferred schools.
Around 1.6% of applicants were not offered a place at the school of their choice, usually because they only expressed interest in one school on their application form. Families are strongly encouraged to use up to four preferences when applying for a school place.
Where families were not allocated a place at their preferred school, the maximum distance to the alternative school offered was less than a mile (0.78 miles).
Online applicants – who made up 87.8% of all applications – will be able to log on and see their offers today (Monday). Emails will also be sent out today (Monday), with letters posted out to the home addresses of all applicants within two to three days.
