Phonics check is the test for children in Year 1 (and some in Year 2) to test their ability to decode words. There is a week in June when all children should be checked. Results are collected in immediately after this Phonics Check week. See below for more information.

The authority has received funding of £6 million which we plan to distribute to households who are most in need and considered to be financially vulnerable. Applications are open for families to apply directly through the main city council website. Schools are able to act as professional referrers and can make a professional referral on a families behalf.
