Local asbestos management plan (LAMP)
As part of the management of asbestos in schools, we have produced a clearer Local Asbestos Management Plan (LAMP).
The requirements for managing asbestos in school hasn't changed. The recent DfE survey of asbestos management in schools has involved information being passed to HSE. This has led in some areas for HSE to commence inspections of asbestos management in schools. Any statutory breach is, at the very least, likely to incur HSE fees for intervention - currently approx. £125.00/hr for all time spent by HSE. There may also be a prosecution. We don’t want anyone to fall foul of course, and in any case we require asbestos to be managed robustly at all times. Every member of staff in a school must know about the LAMP and their role (everyone has a role) in managing asbestos.
All schools are advised to complete the revised Local Asbestos Management Plan.

Trust schools and Academies should adapt the LAMP to reflect their own arrangements and procedures. Headteachers, Business Managers, Site Managers and Premises Officers will need to have sight of their LAMP.
