LMLG Website

The LMLG is a charity that manages Leicester’s international twinning link with the city of Masaya in Nicaragua (Central America). Established in 1987, we have a two-fold remit, implementing projects for sustainable development in Masaya alongside related educational projects for schools, youth and community groups in Leicester.

As a registered Global Learning Centre, we offer tailor-made workshops for pupils/students and teacher-training sessions to support cross-curricular education for global citizenship. Using our first-hand knowledge of Latin America and expertise in sustainable development, we provide a unique local to global perspective within Core and Foundations subjects. We run experiential learning projects that enable young people to connect what they do in school to the challenges of living in a fast-changing, interdependent and uncertain world. We specialise in participatory methodologies that encourage critical thinking and help develop resilience, giving young people the skills to plan for a just and sustainable future.

Based in Forest Lodge Education Centre, we also manage the Global Learning Library which contains over 27,000 resources for schools (covering sustainability, health, well-being, identity, equality, diversity, intercultural understanding, human rights, social justice). Our projects and extensive resource collection support SMSC and PHSE and provide practical activities/materials to complement Eco-School and International School Awards.
