Leicester libraries - foundation stage
information on the Time to Read/Bookstart programmes for the autumn term . I appreciate it is difficult to look ahead when the present is so complex but I would appreciate a quick response if possible to guide our planning – clearly we will be as flexible as possible so we can effectively deliver these important programmes to support early years reading and the sharing of stories in families .
Time To Read - evaluation
Now the Bookstart/Time to Read packs and the supporting on line promotion and playlists have been distributed to Leicester schools we would be very grateful if Foundation coordinators could find the time to complete short on line surveys on the impact of the programme on your Foundation One and Two children and their parents/carers . This will support the evaluation of The Time to Read programme ,covering both packs and the on line resources – each survey should take no more than five minutes.

Time To Read and Bookstart Treasure Gift
There are 2 national schemes resourced by the Booktrust to support book use and language development by encouraging parents/carers to read and share books/stories with their children. It is widely recognised that this enjoyable shared family activity can have a major impact on a child’s development and future education attainment.
Time To Read – Foundation 2
The Time to Read Packs it is planned to be distributed by the Book Trust to schools before the October half term w/c 8/10/18. Each child will receive a free Time to Read Book Bag containing -
- An exciting new picture book – The Runaway Pea by Kjartan Poskitt and Alex Willmore
- Guidance for parents/carers on shared reading
In addition all schools will be able to access online Time to Read resources free of charge including
- Activity sheets and session ideas
- Reading resources, including certificates/Bookplates
- Template event posters and invitations
- Time To Read information for local schools
In previous years we would wish to offer pack gifting/storytelling sessions at local libraries /children centres or if not accessible at your school for your Foundation Stage – this would include storytelling, information for parents/carers, promotion of library membership and an opportunity to visit the library/children centre. These would be time tabled to be after the October half term. However at present is impossible to know with certainty what will be the situation concerning external visitors into schools , I expect visits out of school will be unlikely for some considerable time . So if you could indicate whether a filmed presentation/storytelling would be acceptable for the delivery of the promotion .
Foundation 1 Treasure Gift Packs
As last year we wish to include the gifting of the Bookstart Treasure Gift to Foundation 1 Children so the whole Foundation Stage can focus on book sharing and family involvement.
Some schools I know like to take an early delivery of the Treasure Gift Book packs for Foundation 1 children before the summer holiday -so the packs can be gifted to parents/carers as part of induction meetings/home visits before the start of the new school year – if you wish to do this please email me firstname.lastname@example.org asap giving the number of packs required and the date needed for .
